“Congressional status of Energy and Environmental Legislation – Emphasis on Coal”

The Honorable Mike Doyle
U.S. Congress
Pennsylvania (D-14th District)

The Washington Coal Club is pleased to announce its March 12, 2003 meeting will feature the Honorable Mike Doyle (Pennsylvania, 14th District).

Mike Doyle is currently serving his fifth term in Congress representing the 14th District of Pennsylvania, which includes the City of Pittsburgh, as well as communities in the western, southern, and eastern portions of Allegheny County. His top priorities include revitalizing communities in the 14th District through economic development, and high-tech initiatives, creating jobs, preserving Social Security and Medicare, providing better public education, meeting the needs of our senior citizen population, such as creating a prescription drug benefit, establishing a long-term energy strategy, and fostering a better climate for our high-tech community.

When he first came to Congress in 1995, Mr. Doyle was appointed to both the Veterans Affairs and the Science and Technology Committees. He sat on the Science Subcommittee on Energy, Environment, and Technology and the Veterans Health Subcommittee.

At the beginning of 2001, Mr. Doyle was appointed to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which is one of only three exclusive committees in the House. There he sits on the following three subcommittees: (1) Energy and Air Quality; (2) Telecommunications and the Internet; (3) Environment and Hazardous Materials.

Mr. Doyle is a member of the House Democratic Caucus and the founder and co-chairperson of the recently formed Autism Caucus, also known as the Coalition for Autism and Education (C.A.R.E.). Mr. Doyle also serves on several other important Caucuses, such as Steel, Human Rights, and the Internet. He is also a member of the Leadership Pittsburgh Alumni Organization, the Lions Club, the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), the Italian Sons and Daughters of America (ISDA), and the Penn State Alumni Association.

Mr. Doyle is a graduate of Penn State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development in 1975. Prior to his election to Congress, Mr. Doyle was the Chief of Staff for State Senator Frank Pecora. Mr. Doyle and his wife, Susan, reside in Swissvale with their four children: Michael, David, Kevin, and Alexandra.
