Stephen L. Miller
President and CEO
Center for Energy and Economic Development (CEED)
The Washington Coal Club is pleased to announce its October 9, 2002 meeting will feature Mr. Stephen L. Miller, President and CEO of Center for Energy and Economic Development (CEED). Mr. Miller will discuss and review the results, and plans for the multi-faceted public education and communication effort for Americans for Balanced Energy Choices (ABEC). This is supported by the coal, rail and coal-fired utility industry. ABEC was launched in April of 2000, and has had a measurable impact on the public's awareness of the benefits of coal-fired power and their opinions.
When Steve Miller was named President and CEO of CEED in 1994, be brought a dynamic understanding of how politics and public opinion shape public policy. A veteran with over 20 years experience in the arenas of politics, government, and social policy, Miller has positioned CEED to play a key role in promoting coal-based electricity. CEED’s core mission focuses largely on shaping federal and state energy politics by engaging such issues as global climate change, ozone, mercury, and regional haze.
Mr. Miller was also at the forefront of creating an integrated outreach effort to increase public awareness of the crucial role electricity from coal plays in driving a robust economy and an improved quality of life. Through his vision, the Americans for Balanced Energy Choices (ABEC) campaign was launched and this multi-year effort is effectively shifting public opinions that will ultimately shape America’s energy policy in the 21st Century.
Mr. Miller resides in Gainesville, Virginia with his wife, Pat, and their two sons.
